Buying second hand without getting burnt

Three things to check on any second hand MacBook before paying: the serial number on Apple's coverage page, which confirms the model and shows AppleCare status; the battery cycle count under System Report, Power, where a low count relative to the machine's age is what you want; and a full Apple Diagnostics run, where anything other than no issues found is a red flag. We do all three on every MacBook before it is listed and send you the serial and battery screenshot. If you are buying privately, do them yourself, and walk away from any seller who refuses.

Buying a second hand MacBook from outside Dubai

Most second hand MacBook sellers in the UAE expect you to drive to them. If you live in Abu Dhabi, Al Ain, Sharjah or the Northern Emirates, that can mean a long round trip to look at one laptop. We work the other way round: you choose the unit on WhatsApp from its photos, serial and battery screenshot, and it comes to you by tracked courier, with Dubai addresses covered by our own driver. When it arrives, open About This Mac, check the serial and the battery screen against what we sent, and try the keyboard and ports before you settle in. Payment by bank transfer or card link suits courier deliveries.

What tested and graded means for a second hand MacBook

Every second hand MacBook is opened on our bench in Dubai Media City before it is listed. We run Apple Diagnostics, test the display for dead pixels and backlight bleed, press every key, check the trackpad click and Force Touch, test each port with a real drive and charger, play the speakers, record on the microphones, and confirm the camera, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and Touch ID. Then the drive is erased and a fresh macOS installed with Activation Lock off.

The grade describes cosmetics only, because every unit has to pass the same checks to be sold at all. Grade A shows no marks at arm's length, Grade B has light wear such as faint scuffs, Grade C has visible marks on the lid or base. The grade is photographed on the actual unit, not just described.

What you see before you pay for a second hand MacBook

Before you pay for a second hand MacBook we send, on WhatsApp, photos of the exact unit, its serial number and a screenshot of its battery screen. With them we give the chip, memory, storage and screen size, the macOS version, the cosmetic grade and what is in the box. The serial matches the chassis and About This Mac, so you can check it yourself on Apple's coverage page, and the photos show the machine you would receive rather than a stock image.

Battery health on a second hand MacBook, shown before you pay

We open the battery section of the macOS System Report on the bench and send you a screenshot of it, showing maximum capacity and cycle count. Apple designs MacBook batteries to keep up to 80 percent of their original capacity at their rated cycle count, so a unit reading below that is described plainly as a worn battery, never hidden. Ask through the quote form for the screenshot of the exact unit you are considering.

What is in the box with a second hand MacBook

The MacBook itself and a charger of the correct wattage for the model, tested with the machine. The original Apple box is included only when the previous owner kept it, and we tell you on WhatsApp whether it is there. Cases, adapters and dongles are not included unless we name them. The machine arrives erased, at the macOS setup screen, ready for your own Apple Account.

Our stock is individual units bought back from UAE owners, so it changes as machines come off the bench and this page does not promise any particular model. When units are listed they appear in the live stock panel on this page; otherwise fill in the quote form with the chip, screen size and memory you want and we reply with what is on the shelf, with photos. Trading in your current MacBook against a second hand MacBook
