Quick answer
Updated September 2026Is a retailer or carrier trade-in better than selling my phone for cash in the UAE?
Retailer and carrier trade-ins mostly return a voucher, store credit or a saving on a new purchase with that company; iSTYLE's home pickup is the exception that can pay cash. A cash sale leaves the money free to spend anywhere and usually takes older or damaged phones too. Fill in the SellYourMac.ae quote form for a written figure with free pickup, then compare it with the programme you are considering.
- iSTYLE: home pickup can pay cash; store drop-off gives a voucher or credit.
- Sharaf DG: a Sharaf DG Cash Voucher that cannot be exchanged for cash.
- Amazon.ae: Trade-in and Save on a new order, checked when the new item is delivered.
- du: home pickup with du credit at your doorstep, powered by NorthLadder.
- Every programme sets the final figure after inspecting the device.
- Cash sale: written WhatsApp quote, free pickup, paid at the door.

This guide is for UAE iPhone owners who have seen a trade-in offer from iSTYLE, Sharaf DG, Amazon.ae or du and want to know how it works before handing a phone over. Each programme is described only from that company's own public trade-in page, with no prices, bonuses or payout figures, because those change by the week and by the model.
By the end you will know what each route gives back, where you can spend it, when the figure becomes final and which phones each one is built for, and you can put a written cash quote from SellYourMac.ae beside it to decide.
What is the difference between a trade-in and a cash sale?
A trade-in is usually part payment on something new from the same company: the value arrives as a voucher, store credit or a lower price on the new item. A cash sale is a purchase of your old phone on its own, paid by bank transfer or in cash, with nothing to buy.
Neither is always better. Credit is fine when you were going to buy from that company anyway. Cash is more flexible when you want to buy the new phone elsewhere, on a carrier plan, abroad, or not at all.
How does the iSTYLE trade-in work?
iSTYLE describes itself as an Apple Premium Partner. Its trade-in page offers two routes: a free home pickup, where a trade-in consultant visits and assesses the device, or a drop-off at any iSTYLE store in the UAE.
On home pickup, iSTYLE says you can take instant cash once the device is inspected and you accept the final value. In store, the standard outcome is an iSTYLE voucher for future shopping or credit toward a new Apple device. iSTYLE accepts iPhones, iPads, Macs and Apple Watches, plus eligible non-Apple tablets, laptops and smartwatches, and sets the final value from the device's age, model and physical and functional condition.
How does the Sharaf DG trade-in work?
Sharaf DG runs a three-step process on its trade-in page: you share the device details for a quote, book a home pickup where the device is assessed, and receive the value as a Sharaf DG Cash Voucher.
Sharaf DG states that the trade-in value can only be redeemed for its own products or services and cannot be exchanged for cash. It reserves the right to refuse devices showing tampering, unauthorised modifications or counterfeit parts, and says devices with damage beyond normal wear, such as water damage or cracked screens, may get a lower value or be rejected. The value can also be adjusted if the device received does not match the description you gave.
How does the Amazon.ae trade-in work?
Amazon.ae's trade-in is attached to buying something new. On the product page of an eligible mobile, tablet or laptop you choose Trade-in and Save, and Amazon says the offer is available in select cities only, checked against your delivery address when you order.
When the new product is delivered, the delivery associate assesses the physical and functional condition of your old device. For mobiles, Amazon describes a period where you can keep both phones while the trade-in value is secured through a hold on your card, and says the hold adjusts if the phone does not match what you declared or fails verification. Amazon asks you to back up, remove any iCloud lock or password, and factory reset the device first.
How does the du device trade-in work?
du's trade-in page, run with NorthLadder, sets out four steps: give your device details and book a free home pickup, have the device evaluated, opt for a certified data wipe, and receive instant du credit at your doorstep. Its FAQ describes the outcome as an instant cash voucher.
du says its prices come from bids placed by dealers, accepts devices that power on and work, and lets you accept or refuse the trade-in once the agent gives the final condition. It asks for an original Emirates ID or driving licence at the handover.
How do the four programmes compare with a cash sale?
The table below uses only what each company publishes about its own process. It leaves out prices, promotions and bonuses on purpose.
| Route | You receive | Where you can spend it | When the figure is final | Built for |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| iSTYLE | Cash on home pickup; voucher or credit in store | Anywhere for cash; iSTYLE for vouchers | After the consultant's assessment | Apple devices, some other brands |
| Sharaf DG | Sharaf DG Cash Voucher | Sharaf DG only, not exchangeable for cash | After home pickup assessment | Phones, tablets, laptops and more |
| Amazon.ae | Saving on a new Amazon order | The new item you are buying | After the check at delivery | Mobiles, tablets and laptops |
| du | du credit or cash voucher | With du | When you accept the agent's final condition | Working devices that power on |
| SellYourMac.ae | Cash, bank transfer or at the door | Anywhere, or keep it | Written on WhatsApp, confirmed at the door | Every Apple device, any condition |
Which route should you choose?
Pick the programme that matches where you will spend the value. If the new phone is coming from that retailer or carrier anyway and your old one is clean and working, their credit is convenient. If you are still shopping around, buying abroad, keeping a phone on a plan, or your old phone is cracked, dented or old, a cash sale keeps your options open.
Whichever you choose, prepare the phone the way Apple recommends: back up, sign out of your Apple Account, turn off Find My, erase all content and settings, and remove the SIM or suspend the eSIM.
- Buying from the same company and phone in good shape: their credit is fine.
- Buying elsewhere or not buying: cash.
- Cracked, water marked or older phone: get a cash quote first, because some programmes lower or decline damaged devices at inspection.
- Several devices from one household: a cash buyer that quotes each line in one pickup.
