Apple's 2026 MacBook Air M5 quietly went on sale in UAE in March. We've spent three weeks with the 13-inch and 15-inch base configurations — and helped 80+ sellers calculate whether to upgrade from their M2, M3 or M4. Here's the honest verdict for the UAE resident market, plus the live trade-in math.

What's actually new in the MacBook Air M5

The headline upgrades are an 18% faster GPU, jump from 16 GB to 24 GB base unified memory, and a 500-nit Liquid Retina display (up from 400 nits). Battery life is officially up to 20 hours; we measured 16–17 hours on real-world mixed use.

What hasn't changed: the chassis, ports (still two Thunderbolt 4 + MagSafe), keyboard, and Touch ID. If you loved the M3/M4 form factor, the M5 feels identical in hand.

    M5 launch prices in UAE

Official Apple UAE reseller pricing for the M5 lineup as of April 2026:

    • 13″ M5 — 24 GB / 256 GB — AED 4,200
    • 13″ M5 — 24 GB / 512 GB — AED 4,600
    • 15″ M5 — 24 GB / 256 GB — AED 4,800
    • 15″ M5 — 24 GB / 512 GB — AED 5,400

Should you upgrade? The trade-in math

We pulled the average M2/M3/M4 buy-back prices for April 2026 to calculate the real out-of-pocket cost to upgrade. Numbers below assume 9/10 condition, 256 GB, base RAM.

    • From M2 (AED 1,750) → 13″ M5 = AED 2,400 net upgrade. Worth it if you do GPU-heavy work.
    • From M3 (AED 2,200) → 13″ M5 = AED 2,000 net upgrade. Strong value for the memory bump alone.
    • From M4 (AED 2,700) → 13″ M5 = AED 1,450 net upgrade. Only worth it if you need the brighter display or extra RAM headroom.

The M5 will hold value well in UAE

Based on the M3 and M4 depreciation curves we've tracked, expect the 13″ M5 256 GB to retain around AED 3,200 (77%) at the 12-month mark and AED 2,700 (65%) at 24 months. The 15″ holds value slightly better because the resale pool of 15-inch buyers is smaller and more inelastic on screen size.

    Frequently asked

Is 24 GB RAM enough for video editing on the MacBook Air M5?

For 1080p and most 4K Final Cut workflows, 24 GB is comfortable. For ProRes 4K multicam or heavy DaVinci Resolve grading, you'll want 32 GB — only available as a build-to-order config in UAE with a 2–3 week wait.

Will the M5 work with my existing USB-C accessories?

Yes, all USB-C and Thunderbolt 3/4 accessories from the M2 onwards are fully compatible. MagSafe 3 cables also carry forward unchanged.

Can I trade in two MacBooks toward one M5?

Yes. We offer multi-device trade-in credit. Submit both serials in one quote request and we'll combine the buy-back into a single net upgrade quote.
