If you bought a MacBook Air M2 in 2022–2023, it's still a great machine. But the M4 redesign and Apple Intelligence features have made the upgrade tempting. Here's whether the math works in UAE 2026.

    Performance gap

M4 is roughly 35–45% faster than M2 in CPU benchmarks and ~50% faster in GPU. In real terms: 4K video exports finish noticeably sooner, and Xcode compiles ~30% faster. For everyday use (Safari, Mail, Notion), the difference is small.

    Apple Intelligence (the real upgrade)

M4 supports the full Apple Intelligence stack — Writing Tools, Image Playground, Genmoji, ChatGPT integration, Notification Summaries. M2 supports Apple Intelligence too but with less local headroom for upcoming on-device LLM features.

    Display, design, ports

M4 Air keeps the same chassis design as M2, but adds Wi-Fi 6E (vs Wi-Fi 6 on M2) and a slightly brighter SDR display. The notable design refresh is rumoured for the M5 generation in late 2026.

    The trade-in math

    • Sell: MacBook Air 13" M2 (8GB / 256GB) → AED 1,400
    • Buy: MacBook Air 13" M4 (16GB / 256GB) → AED 4,499
    • Net cash needed: AED 3,099 — for ~40% more performance and AI-ready RAM

    Verdict

Upgrade if your M2 has 8GB RAM (the AI ceiling is the killer). Hold if you have an M2 with 16GB+ RAM and don't do video work — that machine will stay relevant until 2028.

    Frequently asked

Is 8GB RAM still enough on an M2 Air in 2026?

Barely. macOS Sequoia + Apple Intelligence eats memory aggressively. If you're on 8GB, upgrading to M4 16GB is the single biggest quality-of-life jump you can make.

How much does my M2 Air resell for in UAE?

    8GB / 256GB: AED 1,200–1,500. 16GB / 512GB: AED 1,800–2,400. Battery health and dent-free chassis matter.
