An iMac M1 with 16GB and 512GB does everything a normal home or office desktop needs: Safari with many tabs, Office, Photos, light Lightroom, FaceTime, Zoom, Apple Music and Apple TV, even light Final Cut Pro. Used, it lands well below the M3 or M4 equivalent, with the same 4.5K display, the same Magic Keyboard and Mouse and the same colour palette. Moving from an old Intel iMac to a used Apple silicon iMac

Most people buying a used iMac in Dubai are replacing an Intel iMac that has stopped getting macOS updates. The move is easier than it looks. Migration Assistant copies your accounts, files, photos and apps from the old iMac over Wi-Fi or a cable, and most Intel apps run on Apple silicon, either natively or through Rosetta 2. Check any specialist software, older plug-ins and printer drivers before you switch. The biggest change is size: coming from a 27 inch Intel iMac, the 24 inch screen is smaller but sharper, and many buyers pair it with a second display. We can collect the old iMac as a trade-in when the new one arrives.

What tested and graded means for a used iMac

Every used iMac is opened on our bench in Dubai Media City before it is listed. We run a full-screen pixel test at the native 4480 by 2520 resolution, check backlight uniformity on a grey field, test every Thunderbolt and USB-C port with a live SSD and an external display, check the camera, the six-speaker system and the microphones, confirm Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and Ethernet where fitted, and test the Magic Keyboard, Touch ID where present and the Magic Mouse. Then the drive is erased and a fresh macOS installed with Activation Lock off.

The grade describes cosmetics only, because every unit has to pass the same checks to be sold. Grade A shows no marks at arm's length, Grade B has light wear on the chassis or stand, Grade C has visible marks but an unmarked display. The grade is photographed on the actual iMac.

What you see before you pay for a used iMac

Before you pay for a used iMac we send, on WhatsApp, photos of the exact iMac, its serial number and a screenshot of the keyboard and mouse battery levels. With them we give the chip, memory, storage and colour, the port count, the macOS version, whether the keyboard has Touch ID, the cosmetic grade and what is in the box. Battery disclosure on a used iMac

An iMac has no internal battery, so the battery screenshot we send covers the accessories: the Magic Keyboard and Magic Mouse each have a rechargeable battery, and we charge them fully on the bench and check they hold their charge before sending the screenshot. An accessory whose battery does not hold its charge is replaced before handover, never slipped through.

What is in the box with a used iMac

The iMac, the colour-matched Magic Keyboard and Magic Mouse, and the braided power cable with its power adapter, with the Ethernet port on the adapter where the original configuration had one. The original Apple box is included only when the previous owner kept it, and we tell you on WhatsApp whether it is there. The iMac arrives erased at the macOS setup screen, ready for your own Apple Account.
